America's Test Kitchen Comes to Jones Hall
Christopher Kimball takes his popular PBS cooking show on the road.
Imagine if The Big Bang Theory's Sheldon Cooper had an avid interest in cooking instead of physics and then someone gave him his own show on PBS. Okay. Got that? Now imagine if Consumer Reports only published recipes, product reviews, and cooking tips. Put those things together and you have America's Test Kitchen—the most popular show (cooking or otherwise) on PBS—and Cook's Illustrated, its associated bi-monthly magazine. Christopher Kimball is the genius behind both, and he's headed to Houston in August thanks to the Society for Performing Arts.

Kimball plans to bring his vast repository of cooking knowledge to the stage on Thursday, August 14 at Jones Hall with America's Test Kitchen Live!, which will serve as a behind-the-scenes peek at how the show gets made every week. You'll get to see exactly what goes into the product and recipe testing at the actual America's Test Kitchen—a real, live 2,500-square-foot facility outside of Boston—and Kimball will share his favorite moments from the 14 seasons his show has aired.
There will also be a Q&A portion of the evening (always my favorite at these types of events) in which you can ask Kimball the burning questions like, "How did you figure out that bacon cooks best in water?" and, "Will you ever place Bridget and Julia in a steel cage match?" And if the Q&A portion of the show proves too public for your personal questions (one doesn't simply ask Kimball about his bowtie tying techniques out in the open like a savage), you can pay extra for a meet and greet after the show with Kimball himself.
Tickets go on sale on Monday, June 9 and range from $38 to $48. Those fancy meet and greet tickets are $88 and also include a signed copy of The America’s Test Kitchen Cooking School Cookbook. Of course, there's nothing saying you can't ask Kimball to sign it twice for good measure. Call it product testing.
