5 Ways to Detox After the Holiday Festivities

From soup cleansing to cryotherapy, give your body the cleanse it deserves.

By Geneva Diaz December 29, 2021

If you’re feeling the guilt of eating one too many homemade Christmas cookies, or feel bad that you skipped out on your diet for the chance to eat some traditional tamales, you’re not alone. It’s okay to overindulge during the holidays-in fact, it’s good for the soul. What are holidays without the family dinner and cocktails?

But alas, the holidays must come to an end and once they do, the exhaustion kicks in and next thing you know, it’s time to go back to work. Detoxing is one way of telling your body that you’re ready to take on the new year with a clean start.

Here’s a list of things you can do and places you can visit that will help you sweat out those toxins, boost your energy, and hit the ground running.

Take a hot yoga class

Most of the detoxing happens in your liver and kidneys, but if you’re looking for a good sweat to shed a few, Southern Flow Yoga raises the temps in their studio for their hot yoga sessions. Their classes like, “Southern Sweat” and “Hot Mat Pilates,” can help you build back your stamina using core strength and plenty of movement. Due to COVID, classes are limited, but are live streamed.

Get acupuncture

Located in the heart of Montrose is Acupuncture Tao, a professional acupuncture service that offers traditional Chinese medicine to help detoxify the body, and improve your overall health. In addition to acupuncture, they offer cupping therapy that helps speed up the detoxification process.

Go on a soup cleanse

Opt for a chicken soup with matzo float from Kenny & Ziggy’s, or choose from 15 other soups that’ll be sure to fill you up. This is a good way to atone yourself from the holiday stint in bad eating habits. The concept is similar to juice cleansing, but without the extra sugar intake from all of the fruit that goes into a juice. Having a bowl, or cup of soup can leave you feeling more full and energized for the day. Plus, with more fiber in your body, the better your digestive health will be.

Try a floatation tank

Take a break from all the city noise and recuperate in a low-gravity, totally silent, and pitch-black floatation tank at True Rest Float Spa. Not only will it give your body time to relax, but the water is highly saturated with Epsom salts that are high in magnesium, which then remove harmful toxins from your body.

Sit in an ice-cold chamber

Cryotherapy is a three-minute process that can help with muscle soreness, calorie burning, and of course, decrease toxins in the body. At Defy Studio, located in Summit Plaza, you are exposed to the coldest temperature ranging from -166 degrees to -222 degrees Fahrenheit in order to boost your body’s natural process of cleansing. Three minutes gets your surface temperature cold enough to constrict blood vessels and rid your body of unwanted toxins.

Detox with Reflexology

Get your blood flowing with reflexology and try Gravity One Studio’s “Detox Support Reflex” session. During the session, pressure is applied to specific nerves in the feet to stimulate blood flow and eliminate toxin build up. They steam wrap your feet, then focus on the lymphatic system which supports the body’s natural detoxification system. You can also add an IV drip, or colon hydrotherapy session.
