The fourth annual Fashion Houston premieres at the Wortham Center on November 12th and will run through the week. Featured designers include Nicole Miller, Rebecca Taylor, Chris Knott, Catherine Deane and Houston's own David Peck and Chloe Dao, to name a few. The event kicked off a month early with last Thursday's preview party at Hotel Zaza.
Champagne and hors d'oeuvres were in abundance. Models stood on multicolored lit cubes wearing designs from David Peck and Chloe Dao as fashion-forward guests mingled and posed.
Over the course of the event we caught up with Nakia Cooper of KHOU and Rebecca Briscoe of Houston Style Magazine. “I love this event," said Cooper, "I think what’s really great about this is Houston really is right in the midst of things. Everyone wants to focus all the time on L.A. and New York, but Houston is a contender in everything."
“First of all, I think it’s a great opportunity for all of your fashionably fierce people to come together for a week like they do in New York," added Briscoe. "Second, it’s a great opportunity to also showcase local talent because they always showcase someone from Houston. It’s always good to have someone from home."
Also in attendance was Aubrie Layne, makeup artist and head of makeup department at Houston-based Therapy Hair Studio, who just launched her own line of false lashes under the name Lucky Cat Beauty.
“Being a makeup artist, I’m really excited to see our work being celebrated in fashion, makeup, hair. I’m really proud of the people in Houston and I think we have a lot to share,” said Layne.
