We're giving you one week after Thanksgiving to digest all the turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and pie you may be gorging yourself on this Thursday. After that, we expect to see your smiling faces at our upcoming Ultimate Thursday Night Tailgate Watch Party and Gumbo Smackdown (all caps for emphasis!).
On Thursday, December 5, we're taking over the parking lot at the West Alabama H-E-B in Montrose and turning it into Houston Texans tailgating central—complete with all-you-can-eat gumbo from six of Houston's best chefs and bottomless cocktails from Jack Daniels. Our last tailgating event at the Houstonia house in the Heights was so popular (and so packed), that taking over a massive parking lot was pretty much our next best option.
This gives us room for plenty of giant flat-screen TVs, plenty of seating, and plenty of cooking stations for our chefs to make their best gumbo—and for you, our guests, to vote on your favorite. Here's the line-up of competiting chefs and restaurants:
- Randy Evans—Haven
- Ryan Hildebrand—Triniti
- Kevin Naderi—Roost
- Danton Nix—Danton's
- Sam Beier—Liberty Kitchen
- H-E-B's own Cooking Connection
The cost to attend is $20, and proceeds from the evening are being donated to Child Advocates, an organization that mobilizes local volunteers to assist abused children going through the overburdened Child Protective Services system.
Kickoff for the Texans-Jaguars game is at 7:25 p.m., but we'll be opening the doors at 5:30—so come down early, grab a seat, get some gumbo, and drink it all in. Fair warning: we'll be closing shop after halftime, but there are plenty of great watering holes in the area showing the Texans game through to the very end.
