[Editor's note (5/1): Rihanna's concert has been rescheduled for November 14 at the Toyota Center. Ticketholders can use their original tickets or receive a full refund.]
We’ll never forget the night Rihanna stood us up. Earlier this month, she postponed the Houston show of her Diamonds World Tour at the last minute “due to illness.” She'd already postponed shows in Boston and Baltimore, amid reports of laryngitis, but we couldn't help but notice that she was well enough - just two days before that planned Houston visit - to party in Las Vegas to celebrate the birthday of her best friend, Melissa Forde.
Tonight, the Barbadian pop-chanteuse will perform at the Verizon Wireless Center in Washington D.C., and we’re sort of feeling like a scorned lover. We're not the only ones. She postponed a planned April 16 show in Dallas, too - that's four cancellations since she began touring in March. It wasn't until fans took to Twitter to express their dismay that she finally addressed the rumors of a feigned sickness. She instagrammed apologies to Houston and subsequently was photographed coming from the doctor's office. For now, we're giving the seemingly staged paparazzi photos a side eye.
Maybe we’re jealous of the fact that she rescheduled that postponed Baltimore show; she played there last week. There is no word on when she finally will get to Houston, but her international tour dates are just around the corner. The Toyota Center’s website issued a statement regarding a possible future show, though refunds are available. She may think she’s the only girl in the world, but lest she forget, we are hometown to the Beehive; Mrs. Beyoncé Knowles-Carter has an upcoming concert and a proven track record. That undoubtedly will have Rihanna grabbing for her umbrella.
