The Uchi team at a previous Blaffer Art Museum dinner party, with Philip Speer on far left

An ordinary wine pairing dinner won’t cut it for a festival with no tolerance for pretentiousness and no shortage of cool friends. That’s why the Free Press Summer Fest organizers have called upon the best in the local food, drinks, and music scene to kick off this year’s festival with a multimedia feast under the Blaffer Art Museum tent on Saturday morning.

Chef Speer’s menu:

Choppin Blades
Fried pork “chop,” “green” eggs, and crystal lettuce
Bun
Pork belly buns, pickles, herbs
Country Shit
Chicken karraage, sweet chili, smoked potato salad
I’m Cold
Cap’n Crunch ice

Ryan Rouse’s pairings will include a purple cocktail accompanied by a performance of “Sippin’ On Some Syrup,” and a champagne-based cocktail served to "It's Supposed to Bubble.”

Uchi’s acclaimed executive pastry chef Philip Speer, Houston rapper Bun B, and cocktail legend Ryan Rouse came together to create a sensory experience unlike any we’ve seen before: a three-course breakfast featuring dishes and cocktails (whatever, it’s Summer Fest) crafted to accompany classic UGK and Bun B hits performed live by the Trill OG himself. The breakfast is the latest installment in the Blaffer Art Museum’s Feast: A Dinner Series,

Since only 20 High Roller and Fancy Pants ticket holders were extended an invite to dole out an extra $175 for this pairing event, guests will be able to interact with the artists before and after the meal. That might be the most exciting aspect for Bun B fans—a group that includes members of Philip Speer’s family.

“It’s funny to hear that my daughter and her 13-year-old friends are fans as well,” Speer says. “That’s the power of that man.”

And while only 20 invitations were extended to this event, the performance-art-meets-food series still has more dinners to go. You can attend the next one by purchasing tickets here. Proceeds benefit the University of Houston’s Blaffer Art Museum.
