A few hundred yards from the beach in Surfside, this old landmark serves local Texas fish in a lovably funky dining room that reminds you what seafood restaurants looked like in the good old days.

Established in 1987 by Ivan Stathopoulos, Red Snapper Inn is decorated with marine artifacts including an assortment of model ships, an orange lifeboat that hangs from the ceiling, and lots of fishing rods—nautically-themed restaurant ambiance at its finest.  

“Our fish spent last night in the Gulf,” is the restaurant’s proud slogan, and they aren’t kidding. The snapper are delivered daily by a local fish market and displayed on ice in a glass case near the front door.

Try the signature “sauteed filet of fresh red snapper a la Grecque,” a huge serving of the namesake fresh fish lightly floured and cooked in butter with a little garlic and herbs.

Creamy crab Florentine with spinach and alfredo sauce is another winner. All of the shrimp dishes are safe bets. Don’t bother with the pale gumbo or expect much from the salads.
