I first sampled Pimm's Punch the other night at The Pass & Provisions. The punch was presented in a pressed glass bowl with matching cups and a silver ladle. It was garnished with star anise, cucumbers, and the unbroken peel of a whole orange. It was quite an impressive presentation.
The waiter said Pimm's Cup Punch contained gin, the gin liqueur called Pimm's Cup No. 1, and ginger ale. It's an easy punch recipe to make at home. If you don't have a punch bowl set, you can serve the libation in a large pitcher.
1 cup lemonade
2 cups ginger ale
1/2 cup Pimm's No. 1
1/2 cup gin
10 cucumber slices, for garnish
Peel of an orange, for garnish
8 star anise pods, for garnish
Combine all ingredients in a punch bowl or pitcher. Adjust the strength and sweet-sour balance to your liking by adding more lemonade, ginger ale or gin.
Place cups or glasses nearby with extra ice cubes and tongs. If you are feeling polite, you can serve your guests. Or if you're feeling lazy, allow them to serve themselves.
