Cilantro-lemon limeade at Juicy in the Sky

With the New Year here, many people have made goals to get in shape, or to try some sort of new diet in hopes of getting healthy. Frustratingly often, our resolutions only last two to three weeks before we fall off the dedication wagon. And then the gym doesn’t get visited for months and you cave in and pick-up a Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit at Whataburger on the way to work. However, Houston has a secret weapon that is making those healthy resolutions easier to achieve.

Juicy in the Sky is a juice bar that is hidden in The Corridor. Tucked into an unassuming brown building next door to Boomtown Coffee on 19th Street, The Corridor features a long hallway that is home to a salon, spa, boutiques, and Juicy, a piece of Wonderland in The Heights.

The place is owned by Deborah Morris, who opened up shop after her husband went on an extensive juicing diet that Morris says helped him fight off cancer. They offer a wide variety of smoothies, juices, lemonades, licuados, and super shots, which are all made with wild combinations of fruits, vegetables, and ingredients like agave nectar and bee pollen. You can’t go wrong with any of their smoothies, or my personal favorite, the cilantro-lemon limeade.

It has become more and more common to hear people buzzing about their all-juice diets, but the regimen has more benefits than just helping you shed a few pounds. An increase in a person’s daily servings of fruits and vegetables has been shown in studies to reduce the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and many cancers, so juicing goes beyond simply aiding short-term health. If you’re trying out the Master Cleanse diet this year, Juicy in the Sky can even make gallons of the detoxifying juice for you so that you don’t have to worry about preparing it—just pick it up! As an added bonus, the refreshments at Juicy in the Sky are so tasty you forget that you're practically drinking the entire produce department of Whole Foods—making staying healthy that much easier.
