Ikea LÖVBACKEN coffee table, $79.99

Considering the average lifespan for an Ikea product is about 4.8 years, it seems odd to think that the Scandiavian retailer itself is almost 70 years old.

To celebrate the milestone, Ikea designers hit the archives and found 26 designs made and sold between 1955 and 1980 that fit perfectly with the current obsession with all things mid-century modern. The resulting ÅRGÅNG collection includes two sofas and a handful of chairs and tables in addition to lighting, rugs, and a few tabletop pieces.

Nope, not Hans Wegner, it's the Ikea EKENÄSET armchair, $199.

In an age of ubiquitous Ikea hacks, its interesting to see how many things haven't changed in the intervening decades. Just as the latest Ikea catalog included a loveseat that was very clearly inspired by a Ligne Roset design, the limited-edition ÅRGÅNG collection includes a trio of butterfly chairs after the Knoll Hardoy chairs that were released to mass acclain in 1947 and a low-slung club chair that mirrors the classic Danish design of Hans Wegner's Plank series.

Still, good luck finding a Plank chair for $199. Until then, there's always Ikea.
