If you have a food-loving family member you have difficulty buying gifts for each year, Plant It Forward has an idea for you with its holiday special. The network of urban farms typically charges upwards of $1,000 a year for weekly deliveries of farm-fresh produce. But for the holiday season, you can purchase five weeks for just $135—and current members of the Plant It Forward network can purchase the gift for even cheaper.
Plant It Forward runs six non-profit farms throughout Houston, including the Heights, southwest Houston, and Upper Kirby. At these farms, Plant It Forward employs refugees and immigrants who are able to put their farming and gardening skills to good use in their new home, selling their produce at area farmers markets and through CSA subscriptions.
This special five-week session of weekly deliveries would take place from mid January to mid February. The gift also includes a tote bag so you can collect your produce each week in style, and a gift certificate so you don’t have to wrap a bunch of tomatoes to depict your gift of fresh foods.
This year, give the gift of five weeks of locally grown, non-GMO treated produce—or keep it for yourself. Either way, you're giving back.
