Mother always told us to hang out with people who make goals, overcome obstacles, and get it done. We say, why not party with them too? Jesse Ojeda—poor Jesse Ojeda—certainly has his share of obstacles, being Galveston’s beach cleaning operations manager tasked with clearing the mountains of stinky seaweed that have piled up on our beaches this summer. Godspeed, Jesse Ojeda. Godspeed. New Texans outside linebacker, No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney, recovered from hernia surgery, surely the only obstacle separating the team from full-on NFL domination. Local photographer Sonya Sellers trains her camera on two subjects that are often looking the wrong way and/or sticking their tongues out: kids and animals. The results are super-cute, but still, better her than us. Wiz Khalifa, performing in The Woodlands August 15, was arrested for marijuana possession in May at the El Paso airport. He didn’t seem too fazed, however, judging by the selfie he posted from jail. Brazoria city manager Teresa Borders has a fine goal, in our opinion: she wants to bring a waterpark called Splash Kingdom to her town about an hour south of Houston. Robert Webb recently completed a job few would envy: he burned down his own Hill Country dream house, which was dangling over Lake Whitney after the cliff it sat on gave way. Monica Roberts, also known as the TransGriot, who transitioned from a man to a woman 20 years ago and “loves her semi-boring life now,” as she put it on her blog, recently spoke at City Council in support of one of her objectives: getting the Houston Equal Rights Ordinance passed (see opposite page). And finally, Tampico Heights—sorry, Near Northside—resident Rob Block has a cause of his own: stamping out the name Tampico Heights, a term Houstonia used to describe an area of town in our Hottest Neighborhoods issue, a term apparently not kosher because it isn’t used by Rob Block’s neighbors. All right, you win, Rob. Now maybe move on?
