Lobster corn dogs and a glass of white are only $5 each during Américas generous happy hour.

While Américas consistently wows with its flavorful, exotic dishes and top-notch service, it's during the daily happy hour when you can truly get a sense of all that this Houston staple has to offer—at a fraction of the price. Perhaps the best kept secret in town until now, the new happy hour menu at Américas offers a plethora of options priced at only $5.

Perched on the second floor corner of the posh River Oaks shopping center at Shepherd and West Gray, patio at Américas overlooks a bustling scene below and is one of the places to post up during peak patio season. While Américas's happy hour menu is available to diners in the bar and lounge as well, it's this upper-level patio with its white tablecloth-draped tables and the gentle rustle of palm tree leaves in the background that should be the obvious seating choice.

Unlike many of its fine dining counterparts, Américas offers happy hour Monday through Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m., catering to those who make it out of the office a tad later than the average bear, but also making it an option for Houstonians to enjoy late afternoon shenanigans on a Saturday. With cocktails and wine priced at only $5, guests can choose from a nice selection including a Cono Sur Bicicleta Chardonnay, a Tintonegro Malbec and a Marques de Caceres rosé—and that's just from the wine list. Margaritas, Pimms cups and Moscow mules are also $5 on the cocktail list, while ice cold cervezas are only $2.50, including Houston's own No Label El Hefe and Saint Arnold Santo (my personal favorite with Américas's crispy yuca chips and dip).

There's something for everyone in the food department too. In the mood for seafood? Try the ceviche mixto or the lobster corn dogs. How about something meatier? Dig into the carnitas tacos or a hearty Cubano sandwich with guajillo-braised pork, ham and provolone cheese. Oh, you're vegetarian? There are even quinoa empanadas. How about ordering it all? After all, the small plates are only $5. That's right. You won't believe it until you eat it.

A festive scene with unparalleled food and service, Américas wins us over every time with its large selection of quality dishes and cocktails, and the reminder that not every fancy night out requires a reservation.
