Bottle of red? Bottle of white? It all depends upon your appetite.

When it comes to wine pairing recommendations, there's a world of difference between taking someone's advice and actually tasting the wines themselves before buying. What's even better than that? Actually sampling the wines along with the food you plan to serve them with.

That's the highly useful service French Country Wines is offering on Saturday, Nov. 21, when the boutique is inviting guests to come out and enjoying a wine tasting that partners up reds, whites and rosés with everything from turkey to pumpkin pie, letting you experience each pairing firsthand. Savvy wine buyers know that French Country Wines hosts a free tasting every Saturday from noon to 6 p.m., which will still take place on Nov. 21; the Thanksgiving event, which has now become a tradition of its own, will take place concurrently starting at 3 p.m. (and will also be free).

If you're wondering what sets French Country Wines apart from, say, Spec's or Houston Wine Merchant, it's the rare, hard-to-find wines that owners Phyllis Adatto and Tim Smith bring in directly from France. Since their boutique is technically a winery itself, this means that Adatto and Smith are able to import French wines not found anywhere else in Houston. If that doesn't help you curry favor with your guests this Thanksgiving, we don't know what will.

French Country Wines, Thanksgiving Food & Wine Pairing, Nov. 21, 3-6 p.m., 2433 Bartlett St., 713-993-9500, frenchcountrywines.com
