Houston’s beloved Bunny is back. Fly High Little Bunny owner Cody Reaves and his artist-wife, Sandra Evette, have enjoyed a global sojourn and are bringing their bohemian bling to the Heights with the re-launch of Houston’s favorite funky jewelry shop.
After the original shop location on Shepherd was torn down to make way for a CVS, Reaves and Evette set their sights on traveling, expanding their business online, and opening a gallery—but fate had other ideas. A friend called while the couple was wandering the globe and reported an available Heights shop with a corner location on bustling 19th Street that perfectly suited the eclectic and organic style of their line.
On a whim the couple committed to the space, a 900-square-foot bungalow, and spent the rest of 2015 creating a haven for their craft. The couple say they are ecstatic to be a part of the Heights retail community, describing the neighborhood as a last bastion for local businesses to blossom in Houston.
The little bungalow holds more than the sterling silver jewelry for which Fly High Little Bunny is acclaimed; you can select a vibrant rug or a hand-painted couch in the new retail selection inspired by the couples’ travels through India, Africa, and southeast Asia. Reaves and Evette pride themselves on having created an accessible way to shop for jewelry, calling their selection similar to famed highway destination Bucee's mixed in with James Avery and Tiffany.
Reaves reports that there's been a high demand for custom jewelry, so shoppers can expect the unexpected: raw diamonds, moon stones, and everything in between encased in settings designed by the customer working side by side with the store's designers with a goal of creating pieces that are reflective of the purchaser's personality.
You'll want to stop by this holiday season to snap a selfie with Fly High's legendary Gatorzilla, an enormous hand-carved wooden alligator that was a passenger during a high-speed excursion through a police check-point in Mexico. The couple is also planning a full slate of community-oriented events at the store in 2016, and they're also planning to open a new gallery and hoping to complete their “gypsy caravan,” an exciting mobile retail shop experience that will not only hold Fly High Little Bunny merchandise, but will embody the experience of the lifestyle behind the jewelry.
