Natalie Lea's dining room, as seen in HGTV Magazine.

Houstonian Natalie Lea's world felt dark after her mother passed away from cancer in 2012. In need of a project to help her heal, Lea enlisted Houston designer (and Biscuit Home owner) Bailey McCarthy to bring color into the 1960s ranch house she shares with her husband, Matt, and their two children.

Natalie Lea's colorful den includes a sofa from designer Bailey McCarthy's store, Biscuit Home.

The result is a vibrant space that pays tribute to her mother while also giving off a fresh, vibrant, and modern vibe for Lea and her young family. The project was such a success that it's featured in the March issue of HGTV Magazine.

In the feature, Lea details all the ways she honored her mother in the home's new look. An airy and whimsical wallpaper print of birds, branches and butterflies in the entrance is a reference to Lea's mother's love of butterflies, and throughout the space formal pieces that Lea inherited have been given new life, mixed in with modern furniture pieces and bright splashes of color. (I mean, just check out that chandelier!)
