The sleek "Texas chic" at Hotel Derek is perfect for a vacation right here in Houston.

2015 may be a big year for Texas travel, domestically and beyond, as the Houston airports grow ever larger and allow you to jet off more places than ever before

But what if you want the comforts of home with the relaxing sleekness of foreign travel? It might be as simple as a staycation, and Forbes has just the place for you.

The magazine bestowed a four-star rating on our very own Hotel Derek in its 2015 industry list, the second year in a row the upscale Galleria-area spot has received the accolade.

Hotel Derek underwent a multimillion dollar renovation in 2013, just a year after being incorporated into the Destination Hotels family. That kind of financial backing has paid off in a big way for two years now, giving Houston a recognizable welcome for guests and natives alike looking for "Texas Chic" from their temporary digs. The guide was complimentary of Derek’s attention to detail, ranging from the rooms’ design concept to an accommodating staff to luxuries like a pop-up bar, a "sexy pool deck," and an outdoor movie wall.

"Receiving Forbes four-star status for the second year in a row is a huge honor—and frankly, it’s what we expect of ourselves,” said Nick Bilotta, Hotel Derek’s hotel manager, in a press release. "Our inclusion last year meant that all of our hard work to redefine, reposition and reintroduce Hotel Derek was working. To get this honor a second time means we have succeeded in consistently providing our guests a top-of-the-line hotel experience. We’re in the greatest city in the greatest state in America. This what our customers deserve."

Bilotta’s acknowledgment of the hotel's home city in that statement isn’t just bluster, either.

The Forbes guide specifically lauded the hotel’s commitment to local flair, saying that it is "distinctly Houston." Hardly a surprise, since one of the hotel’s stated goals is to provide "Southern hospitality with a little edge."

So you may have seen Texas, and you may have seen Houston. But you’ve likely never seen them through the lense of a luxurious visitor at one of the hottest hotels not just locally, but across the country.
