Just a two-hour drive away, Houston billionaire Tilman Fertitta's recently opened Lake Charles resort casino has already captured the hearts of game aficionados and vacationers far and wide. Roughly 10,000 people now walk its floors every day.
"We have a resort feel, which keeps us from being just a casino," said Senior Vice President and General Manager Gerry Del Prete. "We create an entire experience, where people can enjoy the restaurants, the beach bar and the games."
The resort isn’t stopping there. A new golf course will open in April, there will be a grand opening of a new large outdoor pool on May 1, and the roster of upcoming performances includes the likes of Styx and Better Than Ezra. “We want everyone to join us, the gamers and the non-gamers,” said the Senior VP.
Boasting 72 table games, live action poker rooms, 1,600 new slot machines, and plenty of bonus games, the Golden Nugget has made over $78.2 million in casino winnings since opening in December.
The outdoor pool is a must-see, as is the private beach front. There's even a resort marina with deep-water yacht slips.
All rooms, from standard sizes to luxury lofts, are modern and comfortable. There are deals to be had, too: deluxe rooms are available for as low as $139 a night through April, with prices depending on the day of the week you reserve.
