L-R: A look from the Naeem Khan Fall 2015 runway show; Ralph Lauren; Galia Lahav's Nikita wedding dress

According to newsroom lore, there was a time not too long ago when Houston would die down a little in the summer. Media types could relax, cut out early, and drink even more than usual, confdent that nothing all that important would happen before September.

These days, not so much: a glance at any list of highly anticipated bar and restaurant openings is enough to prove that Houston doesn't slow down for much. But in certain circles, say charity galas and trunk shows, the calendar still revolves around assuming that people will be summering elsewhere. For those in town though, it means a more relaxed shopping experience and an unchallenged first look at the fall collections that are breezing through town.

June 2-3: Naeem Khan Trunk Show at Saks Fifth Avenue. Some people might say that it's impossible to live life by the principle of Sparkle Motion. Naeem Khan proves all of those people wrong with every gorgeous gown he sends down the runway.

June 4: Dominique Cohen Personal Appearance at Neiman Marcus. Even if you've never heard of Cohen, you've probably seen her elegant yet eye-catching jewelry on shows like Revenge and The Newsroom, combining ancient textures with contemporary form.

June 4-5: Ralph Lauren Fall 2015 Black Label and Collection Trunk Show at Elizabeth Anthony. Imagine what it took for a man named Ralph Lifshitz to convince the powers that be that his designs should define classic American style in the latter part of the 20th century and beyond. #Respect.

A Clint Orms belt buckle

June 6: Clint Orms Personal Appearance and Trunk Show at Lucchese. Based in Ingram, Tex., silversmith Orms has made custom belt buckles for George W. Bush and Prince Charles, and his stunningly crafted buckles are perfect for Father's Day. Just sayin'.

June 12-13: Galia Lahav Bridal Trunk Show at Ivory Bridal Atelier. When gowns are this stunning, calling them sexy feels a little cheap. But rest assured, the Israeli designer is most assuredly bringing sexy back to the wedding suite.

June 16-17: Peter Cohen Trunk Show at Tootsies. For a certain kind of luxury-lover, labels are lame. They reek of thirst, and showing off who you're wearing rather than what is your style. This philosophy is perfectly in line with Peter Cohen, who has quietly been dressing Hollywood celebrities for years, tagging his perfectly fitting, elevated basics with only a simple gold star instead of his name.

June 18-19: Tom and Linda Platt Fall 2015 Trunk Show at Elizabeth Anthony. Tom and Linda started out designing clothes for her closet, so each piece is eminently wearable in addition to being chic, which means you won't shell out just to see them sitting in your closet.

June 18-20 Lafayette 148 Trunk Show at Tootsies. The erstwhile womenwear brand has taken inspiration from Asia with its fall collection, featuring a minimalist palette, asymmetrical hems, origami-like stitching and layers that take their form from kimonos and obis.

June 25: Etro Trunk Show at Saks Fifth Avenue. For their fall looks, Etro was inspired by the textiles for the home, with patterns and textures running amok in a palette of earth tones.

June 25-26: Escada Pre-Fall and Fall Trunk Show at Neiman Marcus. Everything in Escada's Fall 2015 collection begs to be touched, full of impeccable cashmeres, gauze-like silk crepes and elegant bouclé styled with a menswear edge and simple silhouettes that exude luxury effortlessly.
