There's nothing wrong with summer essentials. Sunscreen, sunglasses, swimsuits—these are all things we can get behind. But there's more to summer than soaking up the sun, like traveling to warm and exotic places. Even if you don't have any more vacation until Labor Day, you can still fake it by taking your closet on a stylish jaunt around the world, all without ever leaving the Loop.
That's where Villa Wanderlust comes in. The pop-up shop has taken residence inside Mio Boutique at 1845 Westheimer, turning the store's back room into a chic shopping destination through August 12. The project is the brainchild of Houston-based fashion entrepreneurs Sarrah Zadeh and Joy Kennedy, combining their accessories lines into a single sleek destination.
Zadeh is the founder and designer of La Mochi handbags, which are handmade by Wayuu artisans in the Guajira region of northern Colombia. Each clutch and bucket bag's brightly colored pattern is one-of-a-kind, crocheted out of thick, sturdy cotton, a process that can take up to eight weeks for one of La Mochi's signature (and very on-trend) bucket bags.
Kennedy is the founder of Priya, a costume jewelry line inspired by the visual splendor of India. Priya's wares range from simple midi rings to chunky, bold cuffs, necklaces and earrings featuring semi-precious stones. In addition to La Mochi and Priya goods, Villa Wanderlust also stocks breezy linen capes from VAHA, each of them begging to be tossed in a suitcase for exotic travels or thrown on over a swimsuit.
Colorful bags, bold jewelry and breezy cover-ups may never qualify as needs, persay, but after a visit to Villa Wanderlust they certainly feel very necessary.
Villa Wanderlust is located inside Mio Boutique, 1845 Westheimer Rd., through Aug. 12; instagram.com/villawanderlust for more information.
