There's another Green downtown these days.

Believe it or not, we have actually been living in a flood-free zone for the last two weeks! Please don't hunt me down if I jinx it, but I feel like commemorating the occasion. After all, it has been an exceptionally wet summer thus far with the hashtag #HoustonFlood being used far too often on social media. Why not celebrate a Flood-Free Houston?

For a short time, let's forget that it's 95 degrees everyday (or 110 when you sit in your car), and look at the silver lining here: there are plenty of fun things to do in the city when you are not stranded knee-deep at the parking lot of IHOP. Trade in your rain boots for flip-flops this weekend; the hot, humid, albeit dry weather is back. Just the way we like it.

Play giant Jenga at GreenStreet's Games on the Green happy hour.

Downtown's Newest Green

One of the most charming pockets of downtown Houston is GreenStreet (1201 Fannin St., greenstreetdowntown.com), which many may remember as the Houston Pavilions. A long, shaded patio is surrounded by the lit-up, multi-level GreenStreet entertainment complex which houses restaurants, bars and even a Lucky Strike bowling alley. The well-manicured lawn in the newly rebranded complex is often bustling with activity on the weekends whether it's groups meeting on the patio before dinner to downtown crowds emptying out of the House of Blues after a show.

Every Thursday and Friday, GreenStreet features live music on the lawn. This week, guests are invited to enjoy the music of Black Water Roll on Thursday, July 16 and DJ Sync on Friday, July 17. There is ample seating on the lawn, and the ambience is casual as people stroll from venue to venue making their evening up as they go along.

Food trucks post up at GreenStreet during the Lunchtime Lineup.

The Lunchtime Lineup

Besides the slew of restaurants that GreenStreet houses (including Guadalajara, III Forks and Mia Bella), one of the tastiest reasons to post up there on the weekdays when the weather is good is the Lunchtime Lineup. Every workday starting at 11 a.m., some of Houston's most sought-after food trucks welcome guests to indulge in their unique creations.

Wig out over the waffles at The Waffle Bus or check out the Korean fried chicken at the Fat Wagon. Correanos, one of my all-time favorite food trucks in Houston, is a regular visitor to the popping food truck destination, so you may also spot it at GreenStreet from time to time. Considered "Mexican cuisine, with Korean in between" Coreanos boasts a menu with monster barbecue burritos loaded with spicy kimchi goodness and curry fries like you wouldn't believe. A long walk around some of downtown's biggest buildings might just be in order after a visit to the Correano's truck.

With plenty of seating on the GreenStreet patio and a multitude of changing food truck options, the Lunchtime Lineup is a great way to sample some of the best meals on wheels (while they're all parked at one place!) For an updated list on what food trucks will be at GreenStreet, you can download the list for July and August or follow Green Street on Facebook and Twitter @GreenStreetHou.

Friday Flicks on the Lawn bring the movies outdoors.

Friday Flicks on the Lawn

For all of those days spent at home during the #HoustonFlood with our Netflix queue, GreenStreet offers a fun alternative now that the weather is all cleared up. Friday Flicks on the Lawn are family-friendly evenings held once a month where the main lawn hosts movie watchers with a large 32-foot screen and complimentary popcorn, snacks and drinks. The schedule for the summer features Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol on Friday, July 24 and Hotel Transylvania on Friday, August 28. Movies roll at 9pm.

To keep up with upcoming events at GreenStreet or make reservations at any of its restaurants, visiti greenstreetdowntown.com.
