When it comes to celebrating National (insert regularly obsessed over food item here) Day, none compare to National Tequila Day, which falls this Friday, July 24. While donuts and ice cream will turn your frown upside down, tequila will just turn you...into a brave person, into a funny person, into a loud person—it really depends on what kind of drunk you are, according to science. The list goes on, which makes National Tequila Day such an interesting day.

Many Houston restaurants are taking the opportunity to celebrate with drink specials on margaritas, craft cocktails and much more in honor of the boozy holiday. We suggest you take advantage of the occasion falling on a Friday this year and celebrate through the weekend. Below is a short list of the best places to quench your tequila thirst and which Houston hot spots are spotlighting one of a kind cocktails in celebration of this momentous day.

As the newest, hippest Tex-Mex joint in Montrose, La Grange (2517 Ralph St., 832-962-4745, lagrangehouston.com) is already becoming a popular destination with its festive patio and finger-licking fajitas. Known for their "Holy Queso"—trust me you will thank God for it—and their classic frozen margaritas, it is the ideal place to spend National Tequila Day. The restaurant is open until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights, so you can choose to spice up the night with tequila shots or stacked enchiladas (which come in beef, chicken and vegetarian options). Whether you're hungry or thirsty, La Grange more than satisfies.

Straits (800 Sorella Ct., Ste. 940, 713-365-9922, straitsrestaurants.com) at CityCentre will be offering diners their spiced mango margarita for $6 all day on Friday, July 24 in celebration of National Tequila Day. The bright orange hued cocktail is a marvelous blend of sweet, salty, and spicy flavors made up of Cazadores Silver Tequila, mango puree, Triple Sec and lime juice, finished with a spicy chile rim. A perfect cocktail to enjoy on the patio overlooking the main lawn at CityCentre, you will most definitely enjoy pairing this one of a kind margarita with fiery hot happy hour menu items like the vegetarian curried samosas or Indonesian corn croquettes.

Anejo (1180 Uptown Park Blvd., 713-963-9032, anejotexmex.com) at Uptown Park welcomes guests to enjoy specials all day this Friday including $5.50 Dulce Vida margaritas and $15 tequila flights. With a glorified margarita cart (complete with George Clooney and Randy Gerber tequila), the party can continue well into the evening on the covered patio or bar. The restaurant offers a fabulous food menu with such staples as fish and shrimp tacos and fresh queso and guacamole, but I implore you to let the tequila take over and try the wild boar burrito—it is quite the dish to pair with tequila.

If you were drinking tequila for no reason before, here's your chance to get "tequila turnt" where it counts. Peska Seafood Culture (1700 Post Oak Blvd., 713-961-9229, peska.us) at BLVD Place will donate $1 for every margarita purchased this Friday to Recipe for Success, a Houston-based and nationally acclaimed non-profit dedicated to combating childhood obesity. Peska is featuring the Calle Cocktail which is made up of Tequila Cabeza, lemon juice, agave nectar, mint, Aperole and tepache, a spirit made from fermented pineapple. Whether enjoyed on the patio or in the exquisite dining room, a celebration at Peska is one for the sophisticated tequila enthusiast.

For a more involved tequila experience, Pico's (3601 Kirby Dr., 832-831-9940, picos.net) in Upper Kirby is offering guests a tequila demonstration which will be followed by a four-course dinner celebrating the state of Jalisco, the home of tequila. Guests will learn about the process by which tequila is made and where it originates. The four-course menu is designed by executive chef Arnaldo Richards to pair with cocktails concocted by beverage director Monica Richards. A great way to learn about the spirit which has turned so many nights around, this dinner will no doubt be informative, fun and...who knows what else! Seats are available for $99 per person.
