Amazon Destinations, an Amazon-based travel site that helps users find hotel listings in close distance to their home, announced today that it is expanding its service to Atlanta, San Francisco and Houston.

Since its launch in April this year, Amazon Destinations has increased its market coverage across 35 cities in six metropolitan regions, with new destinations now added to the Southeast (Atlanta), Northern California (San Francisco), and Texas and the Gulf Coast (Houston). The site offers bookings for hotels, inns and bed-and-breakfasts, as well as a review system for featured hotels and information on dining and attractions. For an added bonus, hotels also offer discounted and published rates, packages and special offers.

The site’s tagline, “Hit the road: Book local getaways” places an emphasis on booking a mini trip that users can drive to, so no flight options are offered. Amazon spokesman Tom Cook told Skift, a travel information and media site, that service was created to help people plan short retreats, which is quite popular.

“We created Amazon Destinations to solve a problem most travelers face: how to easily plan and book a local getaway trip,” Cook said. “Interestingly, more than 40 percent of all U.S. domestic leisure trips are short-term getaways of 1-3 nights, and many of these trips are to nearby, drivable destinations.”
