Call me predictable, but one way I plan on celebrating this long weekend is by going out to eat. It may sound unoriginal, but this weekend marks the end of Houston Restaurant Weeks—and that means it's the last weekend to enjoy three- and four-course meals at some of the city's best restaurants, for a fraction of the price. I'm lucky to have the extra day off to indulge, and I plan on doing just that with a careful plan of action.
Though Monday, September 7 marks the final day of Houston Restaurant Weeks, it also falls on a day that many restaurants are typically closed. That's why I've compiled a short list of some of the best spots to consider, all which will be open on Labor Day and still offering those great HRW menus.
AMÉRICAS RIVER OAKS
2040 West Gray St., 832-200-1492, americasrestaurant.com
Américas will be offering diners the opportunity to enjoy the HRW dinner menu one final time at its River Oaks location, where you'll find a hearty three-course dinner for $35. Fresh tuna ceviche and flaky beef empanadas with caramelized onions and roasted peppers are favorites among the appetizers while the famous churrasco, the restaurant's signature beef tenderloin served with chimichurri sauce, potatoes and vegetables, is a no-brainer as an entree. Located above the posh retail plaza at Shepherd and West Gray, Américas is not only known for providing guests with a flawless dining experience; the restaurant is a magnificent site to see in and of itself. Dimly lit and deeply romantic with stunning interior design that features oversized booths and giant sculptures, the space is worlds apart from any other in Houston.
DEL FRISCO'S DOUBLE EAGLE STEAKHOUSE
5061 Westheimer Rd., Ste. 8060, 713-355-2600, delfriscos.com/steakhouse/houston
One of Houston's most popular destinations during HRW, Del Frisco's in the Houston Galleria will be open for dinner service on Monday, September 7, accepting reservations beginning at 5 p.m. The steakhouse will be inviting guests to enjoy a decadent three-course HRW dinner menu for $45. Notable menu items include the 8-oz. broiled filet as an entree and the dangerously delicious warm banana bread pudding served with caramel sauce for dessert.
TABLE ON POST OAK
1800 Post Oak Blvd., Ste. 6110, 713-439-1000, tablerestaurants.com
One of the very few restaurants which will be offering diners the option of both HRW lunch and dinner menus on Labor Day, Table on Post Oak is definitely a restaurant to consider this holiday weekend. Situated between chic restaurants and shops on Post Oak Blvd., Table on Post Oak offers diners a colorful three-course menu for lunch for only $20—an absolute steal of a deal!—and a three-course dinner menu for $35. Offering a wide array of seafood and protein-heavy dishes, Table serves upscale-American fare using fragrant, flavorful ingredients. The spring pea ravioli with cherry tomatoes and Parmesan broth is a fantastic vegetarian course (also rare on many HRW menus) as is the tomato and cherry gazpacho.
ÉTOILE CUISINE ET BAR
1101 Uptown Park Blvd., 832-668-77056, etoilecuisine.com
Quietly nestled amidst the hustle-bustle of shops and restaurants at Uptown Park, Étoile Cuisine et Bar will offer guests one last chance to try their charming HRW dinner menu on September 7. Priced at $45 for three courses, the French-inspired dishes include both meat, seafood and vegetarian options. The cucumber gazpacho with shrimp is a favorite, especially among Houstonians escaping the summer heat, and the lemon sole with roasted cauliflower is a refreshingly light choice compared to some much heavier dishes you may have noticed on other HRW menus. A delightful way to cap off the long weekend, Étoile at Uptown Park is understated elegant, and definitely worth a visit.
