Fall is an exciting time for the fashion industry. With fashion month kicking off September 10 in New York City, buyers, bloggers and other guests are prepared with cameras and notebooks in hand to capture the season’s trends in the form of Vines, Instagram pics and blog posts.
What the savvy style-setters know is that the fashions to watch aren't just on the runways. Take cues from the models when they're off the runways, stylishly running from show to show, city to city. We sat down with Erika Forero, the social media director and marketing consultant of Katy-based personal styling and fashion retail business Flora + Mia to talk about her favorite pieces from the showroom for mimicking off-duty model style.
The Shirt Dress
When models are off duty, they want to be chic and comfortable at the same time, says Forero. Their trick is looking put-together with ease. A dress like the Logan Shirt Dress is the perfect piece to be comfy and chic at the same time. It's so soft, and the cut is just right to play it up for something casual during the day to something more dressed up at night.
For day, dress it down with lace up sandals, layered necklaces, and a floppy hat. For night, slip on some knee high boots and your favorite shade of red lips. Transition to fall by layering on a leather jacket!
Models like Gigi Hadid and Lily Aldridge love to add polish to casual outfits with a roomy but tailored jacket. The Blake Jacket is a great option entering into fall sweater weather.
It's light enough for the warm, breezy Houston nights that start to happen around this time of year and adds a pop of color over some easy boyfriend jeans, a white tee, and strappy heels or sandals. It's polished and fun, so it can really go a long way for different types of occasions.
The Slouchy Tank
There's no more ubiquitous piece of clothing in the model arsenal than a just-slouchy-enough tank top. Our Kate Boyfriend Tank is insanely versatile. It will go with any bottom you have, can be dressed up or down, and is something every single girl can throw on with ease and look great in.
Pair it with some black skinny jeans, combat boots, and messy waves for an effortlessly cool look that Cara Delevingne would envy.
The Mila Jumpsuit is super chic and flattering. The side-zip details add a cool effect to the pop of white and looks amazing with a little bronzer and an up-do for date night. Wear it with a small clutch and you're ready to go. Kendall Jenner was seen wearing a white strapless jumpsuit at the 2014 British Fashion Awards in London, meaning that you can easily get her award-show weekend look with this piece. Everyone knows that not being able to wear white after Labor Day is a total myth. Take a risk! All eyes will be on you in a good way.
