Labor Day, like any good ol’ American bank holiday, is a great excuse to get folks together for some good food and drink. But after a long week, many of us would rather relax on our day off and not worry about prepping a big spread. Luckily for us, chef James Nelson and his team from Bravado Spice Company are hosting a Labor Day barbecue celebrationg to wrap up the summer at Royal Oak Bar & Grill this Monday.

Nelson, a top-five finalist of Fox’s MasterChef series, founded the hot sauce establishment in 2012 with fellow “spice boys” Jeremiah Tallerine, Ryan Harcourt and Vince Blasco. Bravado seeks “to craft bold, incredible hot sauces that are undeniably delicious.” And naturally, those delicious sauces will be featured with the grilled eats at the Bravado barbecue. 

The menu includes outdoor dining classics like Texas-style brisket, smoked garlic baby-back ribs and country-style pork sausage, all made with Bravado’s special barbecue blend featuring its signature crimson hot sauce. No barbecue would be complete without sides, and Bravado's planning plenty of those too: dishes like jalapeño cheddar mac ’n’ cheese, potato salad with roasted poblanos, cilantro and dill, and garlic coleslaw with red and green cabbage, red onion, carrot and parsley. 

Courtesy of the bartenders inside Royal Oak, the Bravado barbecue will also feature signature cocktails like peach-pomegranate punch and something called a strawberry-ginger bite to complement the festive Labor Day menu. Prices range from $12 for one pound of protein and one side dish to $30 for three pounds of protein and three sides, with individual sides going à la carte for $3 each. Though you can certainly take your meal to-go, we recommend kicking back on the patio at the popular Montrose bar, enjoying the afternoon and leaving the clean-up to someone else.
