Guests who walk through the doors of the Four Seasons Hotel Houston expect luxe accommodations and excellent dining. Now visitors from across the world or just across town have access to similarly exceptional spa and fitness amenities, as the hotel's fourth floor pampering pad has undergone a complete renovation to create an environment primed for relaxation and rejuvenation of mind, body and spirit.
The improvements are the first phase of a hotel-wide update plan, which will eventually take shape in the lobby, restaurant, and other areas. Spa director Tina Hay says the goal was to create a space that gives guests the ultimate sense of well-being, through attention to detail and offerings that are either exclusive to Houston or at the least not found at the average wellness facility.
Hay and her colleagues collaborated with award-winning Houston-based architecture firm Rottet Studio to transform the space into a cohesive yet distinct blend of fitness- and spa-oriented services. Upon leaving the fourth-floor elevators, guests are greeted by a reception desk where they can check in for treatments or get guidance on how to make the most of the gym's circuit weights and machines. A few steps away are the locker rooms, revamped with clean lines and modern finishes.
For guests seeking a quality sweat session, the 2,500-square-foot gym offers 33 Matrix cardio machines including treadmills, ellipticals, three styles of stationary bikes, and a climbing machine. Fitness aficionados are likely to feel a surge of adrenaline once they lay eyes on the gym’s singular Woodway treadmill, a piece of equipment typically found only in high-end facilities catering to celebrities, elite athletes, and the upper echelon of the fitness world.
“Whenever somebody comes down to the gym, that’s one of the first things they want to see because it’s not something you see all the time,” explains Hay. An extensive selection of free weights are also on hand, giving guests a range of workout options in addition to daily yoga classes and personal trainers available by request. Extras include complimentary workout attire and shoes, if needed, as well as grooming products, water, fruit, and juice.
Guests who prefer to sweat via sauna—or skip the sweating altogether and just get a massage and a manicure—also have new and pampering options. The freshened-up spa environment has a serene vibe with neutral, unadorned walls and a layout designed around personal and intimate treatment rooms and nooks. Classic pedicures get an upgrade in high-end Michele Pelafas treatment chairs, which offer massage capabilities as well as comfort and style, and Deborah Lippman products including the optional “Skin Care in a Bottle” nail and skin treatment, which Hay likens to a facial for your nails.
Exclusive skincare experiences await as well, like the Southern Silk Warming Thermal Body Polish, available in four custom scents found only at Four Seasons Houston. Guests can create their own blend of Bamboo Bayou, Cowboy Crush, Houston Dream, and Texas Green Tea into body creams, salts, and more and take home the remainder post-treatment for an indulgent home experience. In addition to ultra-relaxing massages available in various lengths and intensities, guests can take advantage of travel-focused treatments like a biorhythms jet lag recovery treatment and two healing 'journeys;' one geared towards restoring natural sleep patterns and the other for rebalancing chakras, all of which utilize Texas-exclusive ILA products. The spa’s hydrofacial treatment is another signature service, and while it’s not exclusive to the Four Seasons, it's a cutting-edge procedure that is only available in select skincare locations.
Despite all the new additions, the plummiest feature of the Four Seasons Houston spa remains the same—the option to turn a treatment or a workout into an afternoon in and around the adjacent pool, with its impressive city views. Hay encourages guests to view the new facility as a place for staycations and half-day escapes, where bodies can relax and minds can gain a renewed sense of peace. A massage followed by a dip in the resort-style pool, cool drink in hand? That's luxury anyone can appreciate.
