Houston LGBT Pride Festival and Parade

The 38th annual Pride Festival takes over Downtown this Saturday (where the original 1977 gathering protested Anita Bryant, former Miss Oklahoma winner and outspoken opponent of gay rights). The celebration—one of the largest in the country!—will draw more than 700,000 people to the Bayou City. Don't miss RuPaul's Drag Race and the parade's colorful regalia.

The Amazing Nina Simone

Concluding the Museum of Fine Arts' 4th annual Jazz on Film, the festival wraps up its month of screenings with The Amazing Nina Simone—a documentary directed by Jeff Lieberman that illustrates Simone's soulful music career and advocacy for civil rights.
