The second issue of our sister publication, Love Wins Texas Weddings, a magazine for same-sex Texas couples planning their nuptials, was just about to go to press when news broke of the brutal massacre at Orlando nightclub Pulse.
The magazine focuses on the celebrations of love between LGBT couples around the state, and is decidedly upbeat as a result. Still, editor Andrew Collins had to address the tragedy, amending the editor's note before the issue went to press. "Two of the victims, Juan Ramon Guerrero, 22, and Christopher 'Drew' Leinonen, 32, had been planning to marry," Collins wrote. "Now instead of a wedding, the two families have planned a joint funeral service for the young men."
Still, as with recent Pride rallies and events around the world as well as Houston's own annual Pride parade this past weekend, Love Wins Texas remains a celebration at its core.
"The SCOTUS ruling of June 2015 inspired us to create the magazine," Collins adds, "which is ostensibly a big celebration of LGBT unity. The tragic events of June 2016 have convinced me that we need this magazine now more than ever."
