Remember the '90s? Of course you do. We're practically reliving the '90s now, among chokers and crop tops and flannel and mood rings and lipstick. Yes, they finally brought back mood lipstick! Imagine makeup that changes based on your mood. Okay technically the color of the lipstick changes based on the pH of your skin, but that's kind of cool, too.
A slew of new mood products hit the market this year. MAC Cosmetics just released their Tendertalk Lip Balm in a variety of colors that change based on your body chemistry. Fancy science! My favorite is Givenchy's Rouge Interdit Magic Lipstick. It's black in the tube but goes on as a tinted balm in a range of berry colors. Despite its gothic packaging, this is actually a natural-looking option that is perfect for summer. The color goes on sheer and takes a bit of time to develop. The more layers you apply, the deeper the berry color gets. I love everything about this product. But then again, Givenchy lipstick is my favorite.
If MAC and Givenchy are a little out of your budget, there are a number of drugstore brands doing the same thing, which might be a more realistic investment in this trend. One popular option is Physicians Formula pH Matchmaker pH Powered Lip Gloss. The name might not be as cool as the Givenchy's Magic Lipstick, and it might not come in a cool chrome packaging but it still comes on in a berry color and gets the job done.
Though I'd love an actual color-changing lipstick, I don't think that's scientifically possible. At least not yet. For now, I'll just have to settle for swiping on some black lipstick and having it turn to a pretty pink color.
