While it doesn't feel like autumn, you're nevertheless invited to celebrate the official launch of the fall arts season at the Theater District Open House on Sunday.
This free, family-friendly festival opens the doors of beloved arts institutions throughout downtown, including the Alley Theatre, the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, Jones Hall for the Performing Arts, Revention Music Center and Wortham Theater Center, while also spotlighting groups that call it home: Da Camera of Houston, Houston Ballet, Houston Grand Opera, Houston Symphony, Theatre Under The Stars and Uniquely Houston.
Go behind the scenes on backstage tours, attend question-and-answer sessions with industry professionals, watch free performances and get a sneak peek of the upcoming season. Younger audiences will also have the chance to appreciate the arts with activities like an instrument petting zoo by the Houston Symphony and introductory dance classes from Houston Ballet.
Outdoor pop-up performances and food trucks are nestled along the route, with trolleys available for transportation between venues. The Buffalo Bayou Partnership will also offer visitors an alternative view of the Theater District with free boat rides from Fish Plaza at the Wortham Theater Center.
"Each year, the Theater District’s resident performing arts organizations allow audiences a one-day-only opportunity to peek behind the curtain and find out what’s in store for the season ahead," said Kathryn McNiel, CEO of Theater District Houston. "Theater District has worked hard to bring unique and creative experiences to Open House this year, with surprises on the street and inside the venues."
