Texas Contemporary, Houston's annual modern art fair, canvasses the George R. Brown Convention Center with compelling and evocative works from the world's leading artists and galleries this weekend. Expect more than 15,000 visitors at the esteemed event thanks to its enviable roster of more than 65 local, national and international galleries.

This year, the fair continues to grow its relationship with Mexico's robust art communities by partnering with the Mexican Consulate of Houston for its second edition of The Other Mexico, a curated selection of works that highlight the Bayou City's ties to the galleries, artists and influencers of Mexico and Central America.

Additional fair highlights include talks and programs with Houston artists and organizations. Contemporary painter David McGee, whose prolific works have been featured in the Menil Collection and Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, amongst others, will deliver a talk titled "Word as Image, Image as Word" about literature's influence on his creative process (Oct 1 at noon). Houston Ballet soloist Oliver Halkowich will perform around an art projection from renowned multimedia artist Chris Doyle (Sept 29 at 9) while Inprint's Poetry Buskers will be writing on-demand poems throughout the weekend.

Another highpoint of the fair will be a panel discussion between famous restaurateur and lifelong artist Mr. Chow, who recently returned to painting after a hiatus spanning several decades, alongside former director of the Andy Warhol Museum and current senior VP of Sotheby’s, Eric Shiner (Oct 1 at 2).

Don't forget to drop by and support Houston-area galleries participating this year, including Barbara Davis Gallery, Cindy Lisica Gallery, David Shelton Gallery and Moody Gallery. Happy hunting!
