Exciting news from the island made landfall in Houston last week: Dennis Nance has been named the new curator at Galveston Arts Center.

As long-time curator Clint Willour retires at the end of August, Nance will begin his tenure with the organization on September 19. Having worked as the Exhibitions and Programming Director at Lawndale Art Center, Nance brings his extensive knowledge and expertise to Galveston.

Prior to his position at Lawndale Arts Center, Dennis was a Cultural Affairs Liaison in the Information and Cultural Affairs Section of the Consulate-General of Japan in Houston. Nance has also worked as a preparator at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Blaffer Museum, Rice University Gallery, the Houston Center for Photography and Contemporary Arts Museum Houston.

"I'm excited for the new challenge and opportunity to continue to work with artists throughout the region," Nance says. "Clint has always been so supportive of me at Lawndale, and I am going to do my best to grow what he's started at the Galveston Arts Center."
