Congratulations! You survived the 1-2-3 punch of the holiday season, a.k.a. the emotional Bermuda Triangle that exists between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day. If your last couple of weeks were full of way too much socializing, way too much wine, and the beautiful procrastination of “Hey, I can deal with that after the holidays, right?” then this week started with the harshest of all Tuesdays.

To follow up on our trends to leave behind in 2016, we thought we would give you the jump on some trends to embrace in this coming year.

Bangs

Yes, bangs are back! I love bangs, but that said, one you make the cut it’s hard to go back and the transitional phase is oh-so-not-fun, so be sure to consult your hairstylist (assuming she’s honest) before putting yourself under the scissor.

Short Classic Nails

This trend is a godsend to people like me who break a nail daily. But that's okay, as this year a classic crop of short nails—filed and polished neatly, of course—are now perhaps even more desirable than long talons. The caveat is that like most understated looks, you've got to maintain them religiously to show them off—it's all in the details.

Oxblood

Ever since Pantone crowned Marsala the color of the year in 2015, deep red hues like oxblood and co. just keep getting more prevalent. It’s poised to become the new neutral to wear on anything from your lips to your fingertips, not to mention on your feet—after all, my earliest history with oxblood was a first pair of Doc Martins back in my college days.

No-Heat Hair

Blow-drying my hair is the bane of my existence. I loathe blow drying. So thank you, trendsetters, for making my messy natural waves 'in' again. It’s basically just a new take on '90s bed-head hair, but who cares what they call it as it’s no fuss and sexy as hell.

Pretty in Pink

Bubblegum pink has been seeing a resurgence lately, especially on lips, accompanied by the rise of a slightly more nude or salmon-tinged pink (some are calling it "millennial pink"). Suffice to say that rose-hued anything will be big in 2017, so be prepared to channel Julia Roberts in Steel Magnolias and embrace blush and bashful as your signature colors. I am on board with this, especially since pink comes in such a wide variety of flattering shades.

Mules

I don’t mean Moscow Mules, although those are quite tasty. These wonderful slip-on shoes for the lazy come in almost every heel varietal imaginable (high, mid, low, you name it), in almost every fabric and color under the sun, and they go with literally everything. The only catch is that a look this easy calls for nice ankles.

If you need me in 2017, look for the girl in pink, sporting no heat hair with bangs, slipping on a pair of mules.
