Another weekend brings another chance to shop holiday markets and pop-ups around Houston. We don’t know about you, but with less than three weeks to Christmas, we need all the opportunities we can get. Here, five ways to shop local this weekend (which, in our book, now begins on Thursday), from fine linen to student art to Russian handicrafts.
Sip & Stroll at Hollywood
What: The stores of Hollywood Square join forces for a block party of sorts, featuring light bites and libations and, of course, plenty of shopping.
When: Thursday, December 7 (5–8 p.m.)
Where: Hollywood Square, West Alabama Street
What: MFA Houston’s teaching institute offers this once-a-year selection of paintings, ceramics, prints, watercolors, drawings, jewelry and unique holiday ornaments to fit any budget.
When: Friday, December 8 (noon–8 p.m.) and Saturday, December 9 (10 a.m.–5 p.m.)
Where: 2450 Holcombe Blvd.
What: This carefully curated show admits artists by application only, and the holiday line-up of over 50 Houston makers is nothing short of comprehensive. Food, music, a kid zone, visits from Santa and Mrs. Claus and carolers make it merry. Proceeds benefit Hoof Prints and Heart Beats, a Texas charity that provides free equine therapy for people with special needs.
When: Saturday, December 9 (11 a.m.–6 p.m.)
Where: Main Street Square, intersection of Main and McKinney Streets
It’s a rainy morning in Houston but we’re going to have a BEAUTIFUL Saturday! Come and see these incredible artists and makers! @lolindojewelry’s use materials collected from around the world, making each piece unique and exotic. @louielooindigo brings the look of indigo shibori to Houston with clothing and accessories for kids and pets as well as home goods. Stephanie DeLeonardis puts a bit of her soul in each piece that @lovecraftjewelrydesigns creates and it shows in her modern yet bohemian aesthetic. Rounding out our morning list are the loving boxes from @hbeliveaux of Lucky Bug Paper Co. Each handmade message box contains a tiny token of affection and would be the perfect stocking stuffer for your loved ones. So much talent in these four women! Can you wait until Saturday? Only three days away! Come and see these amazing artists from 11-6 at Main and McKinney and enjoy a beautiful day of sunshine, cool temps, and holiday fun! 🎅🏻🎄❤️ #heartmade #heartmadeholiday #heartmadehouston #heartmadeartmarket #artblockshou #downtownhouston #houston #houstontx #charity #gift #giftsforher #jewelry #clothing #lolindojewelry #lovecraftjewelrydesigns #louieloo #luckybugpaperco
What: Houston’s largest women-only vendor line-up (80-plus women-owned businesses are represented) is one of our personal favorites, especially on this #WomanCrushWednesday. Celebrate sisterhood while crossing some gifts off your list next weekend, all set to the sounds of female DJs.
When: Saturday, December 9 (3–9 p.m.)
Where: GreenStreet, 1201 Main St.
What: A pop-up market of vendors offering unique handicrafts, jewelry and art benefits the Russian Cultural Center, which sponsors films, concerts and lectures in the Houston area throughout the year. Find Russian souvenirs, hot tea and traditional pastries and photo ops with Father Frost, the Slavic alternative to Old Man Winter.
When: Sunday, December 10 (1–5 p.m.)
Where: RCC, 2337 Bissonnet St.
