Warning: Jimmy Dean may, in reality, be more or less cute than this pig.

February 14 falls on a Tuesday this year, so many Houstonians are planning to celebrate Valentine’s Day over the weekend. Whatever your schedule is for romance, Ritual in the Heights has some Valentine’s Day specials running through the weekend and on Tuesday.

Ken Bridge and Felix Florez's concept, which focuses on locally sourced foods, is located at the corner of White Oak and Studewood. The team is running its "XO Piggy Valentine’s Brunch" on Saturday and Sunday. In addition to Ritual’s brunch menu, a selection of 19 sparkling wines will be available and can be paired with a wide variety of specialty juices for unusual mimosas. The restaurant will also have a "Piglet Kissing Booth," where guests can meet Jimmy Dean the Micro Pig and take a selfie with him. And he's not shy: He'll even let you plant a kiss on him if you’d like.

The Valentine’s Day dinner specials at Ritual will run Friday through Sunday evenings and again on Tuesday. The regular menu will be available along with some Valentine’s Day specials. Dishes are focused on the color red for a visual thrill that matches the excitement of celebrating your love. They include:

  • One half-dozen raw oysters with Fresno chile, served with pomegranate and champagne sorbet and lime juice
  • Red beet bisque with candied pecans and goat cheese
  • Seared duck with smoked purple cauliflower, cranberries, and watermelon glaze, garnished with sautéed fennel
  • Beet cake with house ricotta, fresh strawberry, strawberry curd, and Thai basil

Chances are, you and your date will be craving a cocktail. The weekend specialty is the Clover Club, a gin-based drink made with dry vermouth, raspberry syrup, lemon juice and egg white. If you’d prefer sparking wine, Grandin Brut Rosé is available by the glass.

Ritual takes reservations, so you may want to make them in advance if you’re planning your date night there. Brunch is served from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and the dinner hours are 5 to 11 p.m. from Friday to Sunday, 6 to 11 p.m. on February 14.
