Planning a romantic picnic this Valentine's Day? You can either do it yourself (we've even got the perfect picnic spot picked out for you in Buffalo Bayou Park), or you can let the folks at the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center do all the heavy lifting.
Once again, the Houston Arboretum is hosting its annual Tapas on the Trails event for Valentine's Day weekend, with tickets for either Friday, February 10 or Saturday, February 11 still available. For $85, you'll enjoy an evening stroll along fairy-lit trails, under the canopy of oaks and pines, finishing at the Meadow Deck with a view of the Arboretum's one-acre pond. Along the way, you'll enjoy tapas-sized dishes at five different spots, while desserts, sparkling wine and coffee await at the end.
This year's menu includes such dishes as a creamy corn and poblano soup paired with chardonnay at your first stop, roasted beet salad with Italian meatballs and a glass of pinot noir at your second stop, and Italian farro and mushroom with local pulled pork and a cabernet at your fourth stop. Not a fan of wine? Each course can also be paired up with a different Saint Arnold beer.
Forgot to get a gift? You can try and pass off the 50th anniversary commemorative glasses you'll get along with your food and wine, but we recommend something more in keeping with the setting: a beautiful bouquet of flowers—ideally not picked from along the trails. Tapas on the Trails is romantic; getting kicked out of the Arboretum is not.
Tapas on the Trails, Feb. 10 6–10 p.m. and Feb. 11 5–9 p.m. Tickets $85 ($75 for Houston Arboretum members). Houston Arboretum & Nature Center, 4501 Woodway Dr., 713-681-8433
