Have you ever been on a road trip and wished for a handy map that only showed the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department's state parks and natural areas nearest you? If not, perhaps the new TPWD app isn't for you—or maybe it is; there's a lot this handy little app can do.

In addition to an in-app map with the locations of each state park, the TPWD app is the equivalent of carrying around a guide book to all 95 parks, packed conveniently in your cell phone.

Need to pull up a trail map or hiking guide to Garner State Park? Find the Facebook and Twitter accounts for Balmorhea so you can post your high-dive photos online? Want to watch a video of Longhorn Cavern to see the sights before you make that out-of-the-way drive? Need to know what family-friendly amenities Caddo Lake boasts before you book? Or simply want to book those campsites on your phone? The app can do all of that.

The app also offers up-to-the-minute updates if there's a burn ban in effect, if a park or area is temporarily closed, or any other important info you should know before you head out. It's now available for free on both iPhone and Android, so download it while we're heading into peak Texas State Park season and start planning your next outdoor adventure.
