We try to keep it fresh here at Perfect Party headquarters, and as such, rarely invite the same guest twice. But we simply cannot resist extending an invitation to our own State Rep. Jessica Farrar, who introduced a brilliant, satirical “men’s health” bill to the Texas Legislature that would make “unregulated masturbatory emissions” illegal, in order to draw attention to all the many ways men try to legislate women’s health. All we can say is Jessica, come on down. Our other guests, rest assured, are fresh-right-from-the-oven: Mala Sichuan Bistro’s Jianyun Ye, who was named a finalist in the Best Chef Southwest Region category of this year’s James Beard Awards (the winners were announced after press time); 20/20 anchor Elizabeth Vargas, whose 2016 memoir, Between Breaths: A Memoir of Panic and Addiction, was an instant bestseller, and who will speak this month at the Menninger Clinic’s annual luncheon (May 4); landscape architect James Burnett, whose eponymous firm is behind the ab-fabness of the absolutely fabulous new Levy Park in Upper Kirby (if you haven’t been, go); singer/songwriter Rodney Crowell, whose new album opens with a song called “East Houston Blues,” all about his youth in the Third Ward; and finally—let this be your high-alert-PSA-hey-you-yeah-you reminder that Mother’s Day is May 14—local writer Kelly Davis, who founded Houston Moms Blog. Because she’s a mother, and mothers rock.
