Last month Jakeisha Wilmore reported for Houstonia that rumors had been swirling that Brenham's Truth Barbeque would open an outpost in Houston soon. Now, via a press release, we've learned that it's true. Pitmaster and owner Leonard Botello IV will debut a Houston location "in a prime location inside the 610 Loop," the release stated. There are no details yet on exactly when that new restaurant will arrive.
But here's why you should care: though it swung open its doors in 2015, Truth has already made it into the same playing field as the big boys, among the top 10 barbecue joints on Texas Monthly's annual list. Another grand statement is the involvement of Carabba's Italian Grill founder Johnny Carrabba, an investor in Truth. "It’s time to bring this to Houston, while still keeping the original outpost in Brenham top of mind to Houstonians as a fun day trip," Carabba says. "We’re just ready to sit back and let Leonard do his thing."
What can we expect when he does? Offerings that look standard on the menu, but are made with exceptional care and excellent ingredients. The pulled pork sandwiches are crafted from Duroc hogs and briskets are prime from Creekstone Farm. Meaty sides include collards filled with slices of homemade sausage and beans dotted with pork.
The where and when are still to be announced, but we'll be sure to tell the truth as soon as we know.
