If your favorite beauty addicts have seemed a little stressed out lately, it's probably to do with Sephora’s big changes in their loyalty program. The days of hoarding points are coming to an end on Saturday, Aug. 19—after that, if Beauty Insiders don't spend newly accrued points within 18 months, they lose them. (A fuller explanation of the new Sephora rules and how to keep your points from expiring is here.)
After I pulled myself off my fainting couch, woke myself up with a dose of refreshing Evian mineral water spray and brought some color back to my cheeks with a swipe of NARS Orgasm blush, I started researching some of the store's best buys and must-have items—the better to use my expiring points wisely in both redemption and purchasing power.
This lip-saver is a dream come true for any self-professed lip balm addict. The balm is available in five flavors/formulations (goji, rose, coconut, tangerine, and almond) while the scrub comes in honey. These handy little sticks are fantastic, emollient and smell great. The scrub is also excellent as it exfoliates without being overly harsh—it's a fantastic, bargain dupe of Fresh Sugar Lip Polish, one of my all-time favorite products.
I have not been sure of what to make of the Milk line, which seems to exist solely of makeup for people who want to pretend they are not wearing makeup. After seeing talk of the Cooling Water stick wowing everyone on my beauty feeds, I decided to give it a shot. Packed with ingredients like sea minerals and caffeine, it's designed to feel like a splash of water on your face, plus anything with the word cooling in it works for me. The cooling effect felt great under makeup and seemed to hydrate my skin for most of the day with just the right amount of dewy finish.
Yep, another stick. I recently fell in lust with the thrifty Wet n Wild MegaGlo Makeup Stick, but when it kept breaking I upgraded to the Sephora version. This little stick is handy and gives just the right amount of luminance without too much glitter effect—so you're not walking around the office looking like you should be at a nightclub. The bronze-y Miss Sunshine is almost universally flattering, but the pinker Miss Gorgeous would also make a great lip color in a pinch.
My sister has been raving about this product for a while now, and since I am a facial spray addict and I know that we need sun protection year round, I decided to give it a shot. With a light scent of rosemary and mint, quite frankly this mist is worth the hype. While you should never forego your actual sunscreen, this is an easy way to feel refreshed, set your face for the day and get a powerful shot of SPF.
The Cover FX line has been getting a lot of good press lately even before they debuted these little vials of wonder, regarded as some of the best liquid highlighters on the market. With nine shimmering shades, you can use these drops alone, on top of powder or mixed in with your favorite foundation or face cream. They are vegan and free of fragrance, gluten, mineral oil and talc. Since I have been obsessed with rose gold lately, I tried that color mixed in with my regular moisturizer on a day I felt particularly dreary. I only used a drop on each cheek, but each dropped packed a powerful punch that made a difference on my skin. If you're going to blow your points, this is a good bet.
