A River Oaks institution is relocating in the new year amidst major construction in the neighborhood.

After 30 years in the River Oaks Shopping Center, Events, a luxury home and gift retailer, will relocate to 2439 Westheimer Road. Though the move is less than two miles in —a six-minute drive via San Felipe and Kirby—it marks a monumental change for the locally owned, iconic boutique.

Owner Regina Garcia said in a press release that planned construction at the luxury shopping center made the time ripe for Events’ relocation.

As the Houston Business Journal reported last fall, construction of The Driscoll, a new residential high-rise from Weingarten Realty Investors, is set to begin in March. That announcement dovetailed with the closing or relocating of two River Oaks Shopping Center tenants affected by the build—Local Pour and Café Ginger—but Events, along with four other businesses, was reported to remain open throughout The Driscoll’s construction.

Garcia announced otherwise shortly after the holidays. The move, she said, will allow Events to continue the gift-giving offerings it’s known for: up-scale merchandise, personalized concierge service, gift wrapping, and in-store events.

Garcia also touted the new location’s ample storefront parking and “smooth in and out access” in the heart of River Oaks.

Events offers the largest selection of china patterns in Houston.

“Our customers deserve the very best shopping experience we can offer, and this new store will enable me to continue to provide easy access to the luxury gifts and service extras that has made Events a destination for discerning shoppers,” she said.

Those gifts include distinctive merchandise from Baccarat, Hermes, Lalique, Christofle, Michael Aram, Saint Louise, and Crane’s, plus one-of-a-kind art pieces and “finds” sourced both locally and globally by Garcia herself.

“I love for Events to be a continuous surprise and delight to my customers with newness all the time, along with a reliable assortment of their favorites,” she said, adding that the Westheimer location will allow her to enhance presentation.

Garcia assures the loyal customers to whom Events owes its longevity that beloved mainstays will still be found after the move, like the largest selection of china patterns in Houston and an extensive stationery collection staffed by experts.

Plus, Events’ goods can always be found online—the retailer launched its e-commerce site early last year—no matter where you shop from.

The River Oaks Shopping Center location will remain operational until January 25, with regular store hours of 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Saturday, and noon–5 p.m. Sunday. Grand opening plans for the new location, which opens its doors February 1, are forthcoming.
