Levy Park, now fully beautified in all of its six acres of Upper Kirby green space glory, is rolling out numerous fun, free events in 2018 and there's plenty for kids to enjoy as well as adults.
First up is a family-friendly movie night on January 26, sponsored by Texas Children's Hospital. Families can sprawl out on the lawn at 6:30 p.m. and catch the live-action version of Beauty and the Beast, starring Emma Watson of Harry Potter fame. Pizzas, cake pops and more good eats will be available for purchase from the Purple Flour food truck beginning at 4 p.m. Movie nights are held on the last Friday of each month. Upcoming movies include The Secret Life of Pets of February 23 and Into The Woods on March 30.
On Saturday, February 10, Direct Energy will also present American Idol finalist and country music star Casey James in concert from 6 to 8 p.m. Opening act Jonn “Del Toro” Richardson starts at 12:30 and the Diunna Greenleaf Band performs at 3 p.m. as well—both are award wining members of the Houston Blues Society.
Along with the free live music, guests can check out what's in store for the park's upcoming eatery Woodshed, opening in late 2018 from Tim Love. The Texas-based celebrity chef will be serving up elote, shaved pastrami sandwiches, griddled dogs, chile parmesan chips and more eats and beverages in a catering tent on February 10 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., as well as on February 9 from 5 to 9 p.m. and February 11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Levy Park also features amenities such as playground blocks, arts and games carts, corn hole, children’s play area, dog parks, and even ping pong: Perfect for thwarting any potential meltdowns from the kiddos or even yourself.
