So long as your Valentine has sea legs, the Galveston-based marine destination Sea Star Base is here for you. The crew is rolling out two intimate love cruises aboard its boat, the Bay Smart Express, for the holiday. Of course, these aren't overnight trips, but three-hour escapes limited to just 24 passengers per trip.
The Valentine's Love Cruise departs on Saturday, February 10, at 1 p.m. (boarding at 12:30 p.m.) and on Wednesday, February 14, at 5 p.m. (boarding at 4:30 p.m.) from 7509 Broadway, Pier F. Parking is free (and there is free overflow parking with a shuttle as well).
On each cruise, Captain Margaret Candler will navigate the love boat through the Intracoastal Waterway, under the causeway and railroad bridges, and into Galveston Bay. Passengers will have a front row seat to view the Port of Galveston, wetlands, native and rare bird species, and in the case of the evening cruise — a devastatingly beautiful sunset.
The main galley will be decked out in white table cloths and long stem roses for the buffet dinner, which includes the likes of beef Wellington, chocolate-covered strawberries, champagne and more. The upper and main decks will also be open for your viewing pleasure.
Dress code is nautical casual, but no high heels are allowed.
The love cruise will set you back $186 per couple. Reservations and additional information can be found at ssbgalveston.org or 409-572-2560, extension 1006.
