Are you dreaming of warmer times? We don't blame you. There have been times the last few nights when it's been colder in Houston than in Anchorage, Alaska. The good news is that thanks to us you don't have to wait long for an event that'll warm you up in the best possible way.
Join us in Sugar Land on January 13 for Houstonia's Fifth Annual Gumbo Smackdown. Yes, your favorite all-you-can-eat gumbo event is back for round five, and yes, you can still fill yourself silly with gumbo goodness. We enjoyed our time at Sugar Land Town Square so much that we're back there again for a day of the best roux Houston has to offer, unlimited drinks, entertainment and games. And while the competition may be friendly, this is still a smackdown, and your ticket gets you a vote for the People's Choice Award.
The gumbo greats joining us this year for the Smackdown include:
- Chef Chris Jay
- Nola Poboys
- The Cajun Stop
- Antone's Famous Po' Boys
- Fish City Grill
- The Rouxpour Restaurant & Bar
- Main Kitchen
- Bayou Boys PoBoys
- Dry Creek Social Club
- Frank's Americana Revival
- FM Kitchen & Bar
These warriors are competing not just for gumbo glory but for a good cause: this year's Gumbo Smackdown benefits the Fort Bend Rainbow Room. In their own words, the Rainbow Room "...is a resource room stocked with snacks, diapers, school supplies, clothes, toiletries, toys and other items frequently needed to meet the emergency needs of families in crisis." Meeting these material needs can go a long way in making kids who just got out of bad situations feel cared for.
We know you can't pass up great gumbo for a great cause, and you can get your tickets now for only $50.
Houstonia's Fifth Annual Gumbo Smackdown, Saturday, January 13, noon to 3 p.m., Sugar Land Town Square.
