The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo kicks off February 27 with a concert by none other than Garth Brooks, so of course he’s stopping by our perfect little party, and for a moment, all the world will be right. Ahem. Also on the list is Justin Verlander, because spring training starts February 23 and we’ve already got Astros fever—it never went away, now that we think about it. Speaking of sporting events we’re pumped about, the Winter Olympics are also upon us, opening February 9, so we’re inviting Jonathan Garcia, the Houston speed skater who qualified to compete in the 500-meter race in Pyeongchang.
This month’s VIPs include Mandy Harvey, finalist on last year’s America’s Got Talent, who’s coming to town for the ReelAbilities Houston Film and Arts Festival, to speak about her experiences as a singer-songwriter who is deaf (February 15), and—providing the splash of drama every party needs—insult comic Bianca Del Rio, winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 6, who’s swinging through Houston on her Blame It on Bianca Del Rio tour (February 28). Finally, Declan Plunkett needs to stop by so we can beg him not to close his great dive bar, The Harp on Richmond, before retiring and moving to Mexico, as he told the Chron he was planning to do at the end of this month. We guess now we’re glad we didn’t know, the way it all would end, the way it all would go. (Sorry, Garth. So sorry.)
