If the start of 2018 is any indication, this is going to be yet another busy year in the world of Houston food. Consider what Agricole Hospitality has planned out for the first half of the year. In just a few months, they'll be opening up Indianola, Miss Carousel and Vinny’s over in EaDo. And now comes word that they're headed to Montrose for the first time with Night Heron. 

Now, before you go writing up your 2018 Houston Restaurant and Bars Named After Birds power rankings, let's talk a little bit about what Agricole is planning with Night Heron. Executive chef Jacob Pate, who you may know from his time at Coltivare and Nobie's, is developing a menu focused on small plates and shareables, ranging from light bar snacks to entrée-sized options. The menu is still under construction, but Pate does promise you'll find a great burger among the options. There will also be a separate brunch menu on the weekends. 

Also part of the team at Night Heron is Julie Rogers. She'll be the general manager of the new spot and is bringing her considerable knowledge of beer — she's one of the few Certified Cicerones in city — to the bar, which means Night Heron should have a beer program that impresses. 

For the Agricole team, making you feel home is just as important as the quality of the food. 

"You want a great bottle of wine but you’re wearing shorts and flip flops? This is the place for you. Hungry after visiting the Menil? Come on over,” said Agricole owner/beverage director Morgan Weber.  

Night Heron opens next month at 1601 W. Main Street.
