Not a Tuscan villa, but a Galleria spa.

It's not hard to get lost at Fiori. After a major expansion to the tune of $2.5 million over the course of two years, the luxury boutique spa is now 3,000 square feet larger thanks to seven new massage rooms, a second outdoor swimming pool, new rooftop sundeck, expanded state-of-the-art ladies' locker rooms, an additional waiting area, full-service hair salon Attitudes Paris Coiffure, and the brand new, 1,800 square-foot Ivy Bar & Bistro lounge.

The upscale, Tuscan-inspired, Galleria-area spa has been the preferred spot for the upper-crust crowd to get some R&R since 2005, when owner Roy Horlock built it.

"Originally, I opened Fiori to fill a void in the market," says the Houston native, who also builds high-end residences with his company Horlock Custom Homes. "One of the most affluent areas in the country didn't have a high-end spa. The concept was to build a five-star, resort-type spa without the resort."

Fiori's garden area and one of three pools on-site.

Now, after the massive expansion that added the aforementioned spaces and also enhanced existing interiors and remodeled the garden area, the villa-like grounds are positively sprawling. The new combined square-footage is a whopping 13,000, making Fiori one of the largest spas in the city. "Everything is over the top," Harlock says, and we're inclined to agree—take, for example, the three separate pools including an indoor grotto, or any of the 13 treatment rooms where the vast menu of European spa services take place. "Fiori stands out as something special in the U.S. spa industry," Horlock says.

Ivy Bar & Bistro is a cozy cafe by day and a buzzy lounge by night.

Horlock and his wife, Natalie, want Fiori to be a destination, a place to make a day—and, now with Ivy, which turns into something of a buzzy, club-like lounge after dark—a night of it. One could conceivably come for breakfast, indulge in a massage, soak in the grotto, have a panini on the sundeck, get a haircut and mani-pedi, then turn up at Ivy with craft cocktails and dance music, all in one place. Of course, one might need a good chunk of disposable income to make all that a reality, but Fiori is there for those who do.

It's also designed as a destination for private events, including weddings, thanks to beautiful views and sheer size. With five separate event space options, the property can host hundreds of guests—200-400 in the interior spa, up to 82 at Ivy, and 75 on the rooftop sundeck alone.

Fiori is located at 2613 Potomac Drive and is open seven days a week.
