Since we Houstonians have experienced everything from sushi burritos to barbecue brisket ramen, the thought of a kosher steakhouse never seemed so crazy. That—and the fact that it cooks up good food—has kept Genesis Steakhouse & Wine Bar going strong after four years.
The first kosher steakhouse in the Houston area, by restaurateur Jason Goldstein, is well-known and well-liked.
Part of the steakhouse’s cache has been its elegant ambience, but the restaurant recently moved to 80 Braeswood Square. What does this mean for Genesis?
For one, gone is the expansive dining area with the striking Tree of Life situated amid a sea of tables and white linens. Genesis’s new location is a lot smaller and cozier. Edison bulbs hang from the ceiling, casting a warm glow through the surroundings. There’s a small bar adjacent to the dining area, and the sushi bar is tucked into a corner. It’s still very hospitable and warm.
With an intimate dining room space and a range of offerings, from sushi to matzo ball soup, and from corned beef on a marble rye to 12-ounce ribeye, who wouldn’t want to see what the hubbub is all about? If not for the sake of trying something kosher, and heck, why haven’t you tried yet?
