With Cinco De Mayo celebrations so plentiful here, how does one choose? One Mexican restaurant is not just celebrating the day of but has four days worth of celebrations. Arnaldo Richards’ Picos kicked the weekend off with a special Tequila Herradura Dinner hosted by the man himself and Herradura Global Brand Ambassador Ruben Aceves Vidrio.
The night began with heavy appetizers paired with Herradura Silver Perfect Margaritas, which you'll want to pace yourself on as the margaritas are as delicious as they are potent. The dinner started off with sashimi tuna poke in aguachiles with toasted black sesame seeds and paired with the limited edition Herradura Directo de Alambique Silver. The second course was a chopped Caesar salad with boquerones and a grilled watermelon, paired with Herradura Ultra. The third course consisted of grilled beef tenderloin over grilled bone marrow reduction sauce, a roasted bone marrow boat and an hoja santa tamale filled with goat cheese, requeson, chile meco and roasted tomatillo, with Herradura Double Barrel Reposado Pico’s Barrel and Herradura Reposado. The final course was cinnamon ice cream topped with organic heirloom cacao chile sauce, grilled figs and drizzled with local honey paired with Herradura Añejo.
The menu was designed by Executive Chef Arnaldo Richards and paired by Beverage Director Monica Richards, but it was all just a lead up to the events to come this weekend. Today, May 4, features margarita specials with fresh lime juice, agave and either Cointreau or Patron Citronge with Cazadores Silver, 1800 Reposado, Herradura Silver or Don Julio Silver. May 5 is Fiesta under the Big Top—they are setting up a giant tent on the premise and will host a celebration from 9 a.m.—2 a.m. with two DJ sets, drink specials, a street food stand, and, for those in the Kentucky Derby spirit, mint juleps of the frozen variety. May 6 is the Picos Recovery Brunch, which depending on how hard your reveling goes the night before might be very necessary.
